TNT and PGA.com Team to Deliver Unprecedented Multi-Platform Simulcast During the 88th PGA Championship, August 17-20, 2006

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 6, 2006

In a first for a golf event, Turner Network Television (TNT) and PGA.com, one of golf’s leading interactive Web sites, will partner to bring golf fans inside the ropes with 11 hours of live golf TV coverage featuring TNT and CBS’ on-air announcers, camera coverage and editorial content as they call the 2006 PGA Championship from Medinah (Ill) Country Club. The coverage tees off on Thursday and Friday, August 17 – 18, with PGA.com simulcasting six hours of TNT’s on-air content with coverage from 2 – 5 p.m. ET for both the first and second rounds. Also, PGA.com will webcast five additional hours of bonus coverage from the first two rounds of the championship. The exclusive bonus coverage will allow viewers to watch exclusive golf coverage on the Internet on Thursday and Friday from 12:30 – 2 p.m. ET, and then again on Saturday and Sunday from 10 – 11 a.m. TNT broadcast partner CBS will follow late-round coverage on Saturday and Sunday to the championship’s conclusion.

As an added feature, PGA.com will provide fans the ability to pick and choose the TNT golf TV coverage angle they would like to watch through a mosaic of four video streams using CNN’s pipeline technology. Video stream No. 1, Greenside Live, will show the same vantage points that will air on TNT’s telecast. Video stream No. 2, the Player Cam, will allow viewers to follow the designated group of the day as they attempt to climb the leaderboard. Video stream No. 3, titled Inside the Ropes, will give visitors front-row seats to PGA Championship press conferences as well as exclusive course flyovers, player profiles and historical PGA Championship moments. A fourth video stream will spotlight The PGA Learning Center. Hosted by PGA Director of Instruction Rick Martino and featuring other noted PGA instructors, this webcast will provide PGA.com visitors with insightful tips from many of the top names in golf.

“One of the benefits of providing six hours of simulcast coverage on Thursday and Friday is to build interest and viewership of the PGA Championship on TNT,” said David Levy, president, Turner Sports. “This landmark multi-platform experience is the perfect example of how, with the help and tremendous access provided by our friends at The PGA of America, we can leverage our expertise and technology to enhance our network coverage giving the fan the most complete two-screen experience. We wanted to debut this big idea at a big event, and what could be better than to do so at a major championship.”

“The PGA of America is proud to share in an exciting new chapter in Turner Sports’ coverage of the PGA Championship, an opportunity for golf fans to enjoy as never before the season’s final major,” said PGA of America Chief Executive Officer Joe Steranka. “It seems only fitting that we introduce these new features during our 90th anniversary, establishing new ways to enjoy all the excitement of major championship golf.”

In addition to the live golf TV coverage on TNT and PGA.com, AOL members will have access to live video coverage of select par-3 holes. This coverage will be available exclusively at AOL.com allowing members to watch TV on the Internet. Announcers Grant Boone, Beau Estes and Christine Pullara will provide users with an in-depth look and analysis of the world’s greatest golfers as they make their way through the challenging par-3 holes at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club. Also offered is a unique interactive open forum where golf fans can email, log on to chat or send an AOL Instant Message to our anchors and expert analysts.

PGA Tour Has Its Own Fansite Now at PGAtourforum.com

PGA Tour Has Its Own Fansite Now at PGAtourforum.com

(PRWEB) June 1, 2006

The PGA Tour is an organization headquartered in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA that operates the USA’s main professional golf tours for men. Its name is officially rendered in all caps as “PGA TOUR.”

The PGA Tour should be distinguished from a number of other golf organizations. Since 1968, it has been completely separate from the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (“PGA of America”), which is now primarily an association of club professionals. (Prior to 1968, it was the PGA of America’s Tournament Players Division.) The PGA of America, not the PGA Tour, runs the PGA Championship and the Senior PGA Championship and co-organizes the Ryder Cup with the PGA European Tour. The PGA Tour does not run the women’s tours in the United States, which are controlled by the independent LPGA. The governing body of golf in the United States is the United States Golf Association.

In January 2006 the PGA Tour announced a new set of television deals covering 2007 to 2012. CBS Sports will remain the main carrier of PGA Tour golf, and will increase its events from 16 to 19 per season. NBC Sports will increase its coverage from 5 to 10 events. The Golf Channel will be the Tour’s cable partner on a 15 year contract, providing early round coverage of all official money events and four round coverage of a few events at the beginning and towards the end of the season. These deals do not cover the major championships as the PGA Tour does not own the rights to them. The fees involved were not mentioned in the press release, but it stated, “total prize money and other financial benefits to players will increase approximately $ 600 million over the term as compared to the previous six years, a 35-percent increase”.

The PGA Tour is also covered extensively outside the United States. In the United Kingdom Sky Sports is the main broadcaster of the tour.

With a lot of fans looking for an outlet for PGA Tour, a new site is established for PGA Tour at pgatourforum.com. It has forums, blogs, news and chat.
